Blackpool Pleasure Beach: Archive Visit

The Blackpool visit allowed me to realize the depth of thought and design that goes into the entertainment industry. The initial briefing, explained that as a successful business Pleasure Beach have to keep reinventing new ideas for rides and attractions  to help sustain the popularity of contemporary amusement parks. The talk also explained how this influenced people after World War two, I understand that the Pleasure Beach was an escape from reality after the war and allowed people to escape from the world beyond the Pleasure Beach. The rides and amusement games allowed fun and I belive it helped to rebuild realtionships and allowed people to experience thrill and excitement.

Exploring the park allowed me to understand the rides, I particualarly liked the way the rides interlinked creating patterns throughout the skyline. The patterns further added to my idea of escapism ater the war, and excitement, the linear crossings look somewhat like a mind map, it allows you to think freely and escape all stress and worry. The outlines of the rollercoasters was a particular interest as when drawn it could begin to look loose and free, connoting the effect of the ride when in use.
