Sampling Preparation: Mapping Project

In preparation for the "Sampling" unit I visited the Museum of Science and Industry, this would allow me to produce visual research relating to the brief task of "Mapping".
Using the words "Mapping" and "Measuring" I tried to identify how these  could be communicated through drawings and photographs. My initial idea was to map the route that I would take to the Museum onto a map, and highlight the street names to photograph them when passing. However this wasn't a successful idea as once I produced the images I was unsure what to do with them - this resulted in me drawing some of the street signs without looking at my page using a continuous line. This demonstrated how my eyes moved around the object, and how it translated onto the page. Here I "visually communicated what I have gathered through drawing". This style of drawing works well for me as I enjoy mark making, and how each time you produce the drawing even though you look at the same object, it still produces a different outcome.
When I arrived at the Museum (MOSI) I personally didn't find that the displays there were interesting. However after visiting the museum and looking at the map/floor plan. I realised that there wasn't a specific way that you could circle the Museum, but everybody who entered the building took a different route around, depending on their age, or who they were with or what they found most interesting within the Museum.

Also referring back to the "Mapping" brief the task also stated that we should "notice, observe and find ways to record the less obvious aspects" this resulted in me photographing the people within the Museum. I recorded how they communicated with the installations and the artwork, also how long people spent playing with different pieces. I took photographs of how people stood to observe different works - this varied with age.
