Over Christmas we were set the task of producing six spirals using the stitches previously learnt in the hand-stitch tutorials. Using vaious threads that were either found, vintage, speckled, textured etc.
These stitches were:
- Chain
- Straight
- Ladder

We were also learning the technique of 'Couching', developing the previous work by using the various stitches to couch with.
Another technique learnt was 'French Knot' - we were asked to produce at least one 20cm² sample.
Again I decide to produce a Spiral, onto a transparent material, this could then be layered over various pieces produced in the drawing weeks (this included; the spiral drawings, chain stitch spirals etc.) this helped to represent the knots that appear within the age lines of a tree trunk.
