Friday Drawing: Mechanical Drawing

This weeks Friday Drawing entailed using various mark making tools to draw with. The aim was to develop an awareness of  mark making and process led drawing systems through construction and relief composition. To explore how 'Data' can be interpretated through consideration of creative procedures. Therefore the first section of the drawing day was to construct a tool to draw with, for me I used various tools - the end of a glue stick, a toy car...
These created marks that were purposefully linked to my visual research.
The main artist that inspired me from this was 'Zimoun', he uses materials to create sound and movement instillations. One of his pieces is a motor, with a metal rod instered - when all the motors are swtiched on the metal rods all move in different directions, creating sound in the process. It occured to me that this process would be effective with a drawing tool attatched to the motor, e.g. a pencil/paintbrush.

This inspired me to buy a toy car and let the wheels paint the paper when pulled back. I also used a glue stick lid to create the circular shapes and ridges that linked clearly to my visual research within my Textile World.

The layering process of tracing paper in these drawings, was there to replicate the work I have been producing within Embroidery. The layers knock back drawing to create a pattern with depth - similar to the layering of materials to create textures when sewing into them.
