10 Samples:
This was the last week in hand embroidery, and after a large group discussion over everyones work, I have been able to take forward certain ideas and processes to help develop my 'Data' project further within machine embroidery.
Through this project I thought in depth about the techniques and processes that I would choose to use, but most of all consider the fabrics I will work with. I need to pick the right weights and types of yarns
to see how by manipulating these with new techniques they could link to my drawings.
From this feedback I will take forward certain techniques, such as french knots and the layering of materials - this works for me because I enjoy stripping back the block colours in the materials by layering them and adding stitch, to create subtle, textural samples.
During hand embroidery, what didn't work for me was the simplicity of some of the techniques, as I like layered, sometimes detailled samples - this meant that I had to combine techniques to relate more to my drawings... this was too time consuming, and had an effect on my work.
During this week I descovered Alice Kettle's work, and how she can interpreatate drawing with stitch - this was a huge help and has allowed me to draw up new ideas to take forward and further develop my work.
